  1. I love the show Justified (it's so down to earth, realistic, and gritty). So I'm watching and Raylen is meeting someone (I think Winona) in this bar. The camera pans around the inside of the bar and you see that there are record covers nailed up along the wall. It only shows it for a split second, but me (with my love of all things Enos Strate) yells to my husband. STOP!!! STOP!!! Rewind it!!!

He's looking at me like I'm a nut because there's nothing happening in the shot. Lo and behold, there is cover of "Back in Hazzard" by Sonny Shroyer nailed up on the wall. I just about died (and my husband still thinks I'm nuts!). Someone on the crew must be a die-hard Dukes fan. :)

It's somewhere in Season 2, but I can't remember the episode. Anyone?

  2. The next part of this story is now up! I decided the chapters were looking a little cluttered, so I named them all instead of just putting "Part so and so".

I know I'm not done with "Before the Dawn", but there were some things I wanted to allude to in the last part of it that you wouldn't know unless you've read this next part of "The Story of Us" and I figured that might be a problem since I hadn't actually written it yet, lol.

For lack of a better name, part VI is "Love and Other Misfortunes" and will have 2 chapters.

  3. This story is for the "Cliche' Challenge" (and also the "Christmas Challenge", but I think I'm about 6 years too late for that one).

What else could be more cliche'd than a parody of the timeless classic "It's a Wonderful Life"?

In this case, Daisy gets to see how the lives of those around her - and even Hazzard itself, would be different if she'd never been born...and perhaps learn a thing or two about herself along the way. This story takes place the Christmas after "Enos and Daisy's Wedding".

Warning: If you're looking for just a sweet, little happy-go-lucky Christmas story, you might just want to skip straight to the end.

Also, this story can be read as a stand-alone, but the memories that Daisy has of Enos are taken from "The Story of Us". I've tried to flesh them out enough here in this story that you'll get the picture even if you haven't read that fanfic, though.

  4. Here's a new story for the Cliche' Challenge!

  5. The Story of Us explores the history of Enos and Daisy from age 10 to the beginning of the series. It is mainly from Enos' POV, though many parts are from Daisy's POV, and delves into events from his childhood that shaped not only the people they came to be, but their relationship as well.

The Story of Us is also the back-story for the novella, Beneath a Hazzard Moon, but both can be read as stand-alone stories.

The Story of Us can be found here.

Subsequent updates will be posted to this thread.

  6. I'm thinking 'bout something similar to "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Duke" (in my mind "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Strate", obviously).

Enos becomes a bad guy (so strange to think of Enos as a bad guys LOL) and he's not shy. Anyway Daisy is somehow enamoured of Enos's dark side, and...... well..... you know (OK, there're children here......I know).

Okay, I was sooo thinking about doing that! (So don't think I stole your idea if I ever get around to it, lol).

Edited to add...Sheesh, I didn't realize this post was so old when I replied to it! Did you ever write that fanfic, i1976?

  7. 1. I don't mind OC's (original characters) so long as they are brought in gradually and the author has spent time fleshing them out properly. One pet peeve though are OC's with names that don't fit with the setting.

    2. First person stories are pretty rare and there's a reason. I pretty much skip anything that starts with. "I walked into..." Same goes with stories written in present tense. "She walks into the room and looks at him." I've read 1 story by 1 author that actually made that work (not in the DOH fandom, it was an AiW story).

    3. Proof-read...please! A few mistakes will always slip through, but when you're dodging one misspelling after another, it's hard to decipher the point of the story.

    4. Don't just have strictly conversation. Think about what the character would be doing and put that in. Assume we as readers are imagining the characters on a blank white background and they are speaking in monotone. If you want us to invision them saying something a certain way or in a certain place, describe those things, it makes the story richer.

    5. When you write conversation, think about how people actually talk. No one I know actually says, "We will be going to the park this afternoon. We will eat ham sandwiches. Please come with us."

Don't you mean... "Hey, we're going to the park later. You wanna come and eat some sandwiches with us?" or something like that...you get the point.

*None of this is directed at anyone on here or in the DOH fandom, I just happened to have just read a...um...less than wonderful... fanfic in a completely different fandom about an hour ago, lol, so it's all fresh in my mind.

  8. I know this isn't really part of my fanfic, but I figured I'd put a link in this thread as well to my new Enos/Daisy fanvid. I've been wanting to do one with this song for a long, long time. It just screamed "Enos" to me the first time I heard it.

It can be found on YouTube here:

or if YT gets cranky and takes it down, it can be found here permanently:
