The Dukes of Hazzard made its big-screen debut in 2005. With cinema looking back to the '70s and '80s for suitable candidates for remakes, it came a year after the Starsky and Hutch movie and a few years before The A-Team movie. The movie starred Johnny Knoxville as Luke Duke, Seann William Scott as Bo Duke, Jessica Simpson as Daisy Duke, Willie Nelson as Uncle Jesse and Burt Reynolds as Boss Hogg. The storyline pretty much disregarded the original TV series, as well as many of its family values.

Despite the 2005 movie getting what could charitably be described as mixed reviews, it was followed two years later by a TV movie called The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning. Only Willie Nelson reprised his role from the 2005 movie, but at least Daisy was back to being a brunette. This time the storyline ignored the TV series and the 2005 movie, and completely re-wrote how the cousins came to be with Uncle Jesse, their relative ages and how they acquired the General.
