DukesFest 2001

The first official DukesFest took place in a large open field behind Cooter's Place in Sperryville, VA on August 24-26, 2001. It was fairly modest compared to later events, featuring a few dozen General Lee replicas, LEE1 in its unrestored form, the surviving main cast, and some activities for young fans. There was a stage set up in the field for music and for the cast to perform. The crowd was estimated to be five to ten thousand fans strong. DukesFest would quickly outgrow this location in later years.
