Plot Summary

Hughie's car in the police station

Boss' nephew, Hughie Hogg, returns to Hazzard to help catch the Dukes, and this time he's dressed just like his uncle. His first plan is to sue the Dukes for causing Boss whiplash, but that fails when Boss is tricked into jumping out of his wheelchair. Hughie's second plan is to frame them for stealing his car, but Cooter hides the car during the search of the farm and then helps to leave it in the police station.

Hughie then moves on to a more complicated scheme which starts with some moonshine planted in Daisy's trunk. Knowing that Bo and Luke won't leave their cousin in jail while she's supposed to be maid of honor at her friend's wedding, he waits for them to help Daisy escape. His secret weapon is a video camera which records the Dukes' law-breaking. When Hughie shows his video evidence to Boss, Rosco realizes that Hughie has also been recording his inefficiency.

The Dukes and Cooter finally get filled in on what Hughie has been up to, and find out that he's taking the video tape to show the police in the state capital. Luke realizes that they don't need to get the tape from Hughie, they just need to get it near a strong magnet to erase it. Cooter reads Luke's mind, and they set about steering Hughie towards the junkyard.

Commentary

Trivia

Cooter's truck
  • Cooter acquires a large parcel truck for this episode, mainly because they needed a vehicle large enough to hide Hughie's car inside. He says that he borrowed it from E.W. Brown in Cotton, but well-worn signs on the side say "Cooter's Garage" and "Reliable Auto Repair".
  • The junkyard seen at the end of the episode was a real junkyard on Glenoaks Boulevard, near Truesdale Street in Sun Valley, CA. There are still several auto parts businesses in the area.
  • Ellen Murray's appearance as Mary Belle is her only acting credit.

Bloopers

  • Hughie's second plan is to get the Dukes for "grand theft auto", but his blackboard says "GRAND AUTO THEFT".
