Rosco's latest scheme to frame the Duke Boys is to make them cross the state line and break the terms of their probation. To do this, he first removes the state line sign, and then chases them over it without them even knowing. He soon replaces the sign and calls Boss with the good news. Meanwhile, Bo and Luke find themselves on an unfamiliar road that leads to a racetrack where Cale Yarborough is testing a secret turbocharger that he hopes will help him win the Illinois 500. After Cale and his mechanic Chet accept that Bo and Luke aren't trying to help the Jethro Brothers steal the turbocharger, they give Bo a run in Cale's white Charger.
The Jethro Brothers soon pick up Cale's trail when the Dukes take Chet to meet Cooter at the Boar's Nest. Back in town, the Jethro Brothers plant bugs in the General and Cale's Charger before cutting a deal with Boss Hogg to get their hands on the turbocharger. When the Dukes try to sneak Cale out of Hazzard on a bus, they find two patrol cars waiting for them. They become more suspicious when they're beaten to the railroad station (who knew Hazzard had one?). When Boss even beats them to crop-duster Amos Stigger, they realize they've been bugged and give Boss a blast of Dixie.
Regrouping, the Dukes and Cooter then hatch a plan which involves painting Cale's Charger to look like the General, along with a third that Cooter conveniently has behind his garage, and using both as decoys. Despite Luke saying about the third car, "Don't worry. It don't have to be exact. As long as it's the same model car," all three cars end up with perfect paintwork, correct wheels and nudge bars. They even take out Cale's black interior and replace it with one that's tan!

Plot Summary
