Being a Dukes of Hazzard Fan

This gem from YouTube shows the passion and dedication of Dukes of Hazzard fans who gathered in Hazard, Kentucky, in 1981. Some folks call this the first, true Dukes fan event and they may be correct.

Much has changed since 1981. Sorrell “Boss Hogg” Booke is no longer with us. Nor is the terminally ill child in this video, who referred to herself as “JoJo P. Coltrane.”

What remains, is the passion and dedication of Dukes of Hazzard fans around the world, of all ages, of all walks of life. We are fortunate that we have many cast members still with us, who are willing to meet and greet fans at appearances and events. People like Ben Jones, James Best, Rick Hurst, Catherine Bach, Sonny Shroyer, John Schneider and Tom Wopat. Who would have thought, that 32 years after The Dukes of Hazzard hit the air, people would still be talking about Cooter, Rosco, Cletus, Daisy, Enos, Bo and Luke? Or lining up to meet them whenever the opportunity arose?

In the upcoming days we will be posting more news and info about upcoming cast appearances. For now, enjoy this look back in time. This is what it was like – and is like – to be a Dukes of Hazzard fan.

Dukes of Hazzard on CMT Update

The Dukes of Hazzard has been put back on the late-night time slots again. CMT seems to be using Dukes of Hazzard as a fill-in for hours that they don’t know what to do with. Break out the TiVo, or pull an all-nighter to watch these upcoming episodes of The Dukes of Hazzard:

Dukes of Hazzard Screen Test

Ever wonder how it looked when John Schneider and Tom Wopat became Bo Duke and Luke Duke for the first time? Here’s an early look at The Dukes of Hazzard, through a screen test in 1978.  While this exact scene never shows up in an episode, the plot elements sound familiar to “Daisy’s Song.”  You’ll also notice a little more cussing and a slightly edgier feel, which was true to the first few episodes.

This screen test is part of the Bonus Features on The Dukes of Hazzard Season Two DVD set.

Dukes of Hazzard for Night Owls

Or for early risers…like, real early. CMT is broadcasting “The Dukes of Hazzard” on weeknights at 1:00 a.m.   Don’t they realize farmers get up early, but not that early? We’re not sure why a family-friendly show like The Dukes of Hazzard is in the same time slot as most infomercials, but it doesn’t bode well.

Many Dukes of Hazzard fans are young viewers and their entire families. It’s one of the few shows on television that you can sit your child in front of and not worry about what they’re going to see or hear.  We hope CMT restores the Dukes of Hazzard to an appropriate time slot that would serve the traditional audience of the program.

Check your local listings for the latest CMT schedules.  And keep your fingers crossed.
