Dukes of Hazzard Fans Unhappy About “Party Down South” Promos

PDS_logo_281x211Dukes of Hazzard fans have made their frustrations and anger known to the powers that be at CMT that they don’t want Party Down South promoted during airing of the Dukes. It’s very clear why. The Dukes of Hazzard is a family show. Party Down South clearly ISN’T. Parents (and grandparents) have said they will not let their children watch the Dukes on CMT because the PDS promos are inappropriate for children to view. Party Down South is the anti-thesis of everything the Dukes stood for: family, personal responsibility, and strong moral values. You would never see any of the Dukes engaging in the kind of behavior depicted on PDS.

The sad thing is, CMT appears to be deaf to their viewers. Even with cast members like Ben Jones speaking out about it, no changes have yet been made. If they continue to ignore their audience, viewers will just start watching the show on dvd again, where they can watch all the scenes CMT has cut to add in more Party Down South commercials.

Dukes of Hazzard Shindig Success!

Dukes of Hazzard "Hazzard Run" PosterThe Dukes of Hazzard Family Reunion in Livingston Parish, LA had 20,000 fans show up on Sept. 29, which exceeded the hoped-for attendance by promoters. The event offered free admission to the public, though nominal autograph fees were charged by Dukes of Hazzard cast members. You can read a local write-up about it in The Daily Reveille. By all accounts thus far from fans, promoters and cast members, the event was a great success, and there is already talk of another Hazzard Family Reunion for 2013.

Meanwhile, Dukes of Hazzard shindigs continue during 2012! Owners of General Lee replicas can join cast member Ben Jones, a/k/a “Cooter Davenport”, for the annual Hazzard Run on Oct. 13 & 14! Rick Hurst, “Deputy Cletus Hogg” will be joining the fun. If you’ve never seen this parade of General Lees roll into town, it’s a sight worth the trip! To register your General Lee for the Hazzard Run, or to obtain spectator info, visit Cooter’s Place.

HazzardNet promotes all things Dukes of Hazzard, so we’re happy to pass this news along. However, we have seen conflicting press releases and advertising regarding the cast appearances – namely, when it comes to Tom Wopat and Ben Jones.  Rather than speak for the event, we’re gonna point you directly to the Dukes of Hazzard Family Reunion and Car Show Facebook Page where you can sort things out. Please submit any and all questions you might have about this event directly to the organizers.

As with all large-scale Dukes events, we suggest you book your hotel ASAP and plan to arrive at the event early!
