Lyrics

Duke_It!

Recommended Posts

I REALLY need help! I'm trying to figure out all the Lyrics to the Dukes CD soundtrack, and there are some things that I just CAN'T get. I'm pretty sure it's the accent that's messin me up, being foreign to me, as a Kiwi...

Anywho...

in 'Laughing all the way to the Bank' there's a chuck that I can't figure out (q-marks are the bit's I don't know):

(Big Boss Hogg

??????????????)

MMMM-Hmmm

(Chases Money like a Love-Sick)

Yeah, that's right.

(He's charmin' as an Army Tank)

Well now, wait a minute!

(But he's laughing all the way to the bank)

Hyeehehehehehahahehahe!

(Boss Hogg

Big Boss Hogg)

Well I don't look like

No Movie Star

There's no doubt

About that

But there's a

Cal-Cu-Latin' Mind

Inside my ?????? hat

I dunno but is the last one there "spencin'", or something of the sort?

Right... then in "Down Home American Girl" there's this part:

I've never been near Amsterdam

I don't have a ??????????????

I don't travel all over the world

And finally, in Duellin' Dukes:

They’re in the fourth lap

And lookie lookie look

At that Fancy Pants go!

I’ll be danged if his car ain’t faster than the ???????????????

He’s up a good half a lap on Cletus in patrol car number two, And he’s got the Dukes by Noon!

(a verse or so)

Trouble! I can’t believe my eyes!

Them Dukes car is spewing out smoke

Like a stack on a Still Mill!

Losing speed too!

Well, now’s the time to get Daisy down here,

As our own ??????? chequered flag waver. C’mon Girl, lets go!

So, can you guys help me? Puh-lease :p:roll:

Not too sure my dad said it's that.

Down Home American Girl

I don't have a Santa Fe tan.

Duelin' Dukes

I'll be danged if his car ain't faster than the bows at a shotgun wedding.

As our own honorary checkered flag wavwr.

Sorry I can't help ya wit the last one.

Dixie, it goes a little something like this:

Carrying on like we did before! Ten in the tank, for on the floor.

V8's screamin we're back for more, carryin on like we did before.

Didn't we raise us a ruckus?

Didn't we kick up our heels?

Sheriff Rosco cussed us;

Said we were hell on wheels!

Didn't we burn up the backroads,

Didn't we have us some fun?

Hey I got a great idea,

(what?)

What do you say we make one more run??

Carryin' on like did before,

Ten in the tank, four on the floor.

V8's screamin we're back for more!

Carryin on like we did before!

:D

No problem Dixie! LOL the weird thing is that I yanked it out of my head, even though I haven't watched the actual movie in like three years. I've always loved the song, though, so the lyrics have stayed with me!

I haven't actually seen the reunion movies, but I love the song and know it off by heart to!

Actually... I know almost all the lyrics to all the songs on the Dukes TV Soundtrack, with the exception of those referred to in my first post! But know them now! Mostly. I sing them all the time... :D

I think my favorite song on that whole album is "The General Lee," sung by Johnny Cash. He just injects so much of the car's personality into the tone of the song, and it's the perfect "voice" for our favorite Charger! Even better, my kids, 3 and 5, are starting to like the Dukes now, too!

Took a few years but here's what I got so far

Down Home American Girl

Catherine Bach

I don't know what London is like

I've never seen Venice at night

I don't travel all over the world

'Cause life here's the greatest

And I'm gonna stay just

A down home American girl

They tell me that Rio's real fine

In France they've got romance and wine

But here in our part of the world

Life is the sweetest

And I'd rather be just

A down home American girl

The stars are all the glitter I need to see

The moon's the only kind of bright light for me

There's music in the summer wind through the trees

And home's the only place I wanna be

I've never been near Amsterdam

I don't have a St. Tropez tan

I don't travel all over the world

Cause life if the greatest

And I'm gonna stay just

A down home American girl

A down home American girl

A down home American girl

Laughing All The Way To The Bank

Sorrell Booke

(Boss Hogg)

(Big Boss Hogg)

Well I'm not to tall and I'm not too lean

And they sure don't call me cute

But I pack a roll with a lot of dough

In my snow white three piece suit

I'm the man in charge 'round these here parts

And whatever I say goes

Try anything in my neck of the woods

And you'll pee right through the nose

(Big Boss Hogg)

CHORUS

He's as hungry as a Georgia mule

Chases money like a lovesick fool

He's charming as an army tank

But he's laughing all the way to the bank

(Boss Hogg)

(Big Boss Hogg)

Well I don't look like no movie star

There's no doubt about that

But there's a calculatin' mind

Inside my Stetson hat

I won't leave well enough alone

And I guess I never will

'Till I own every piece of land

And every moonshine whiskey still

(Big Boss Hogg)

CHORUS

He's as hungry as a Georgia mule

Chases money like a lovesick fool

He's charming as an army tank

But he's laughing all the way to the bank

(Big Boss Hogg)

CHORUS

He's as hungry as a Georgia mule

Chases money like a lovesick fool

He's charming as an army tank

But he's laughing all the way to the bank

He's charming as an army tank

But he's laughing all the way

laughing all the way

laughing all the way to the bank

Welcome to Hazzard County s2n.

I'm going to get out my 1981 Dukes soundtrack and check this out. Three things stood out to me. One was St Tropez tan. You might be right about that.

I think you're wrong about two on Boss's song. It should be "bleed right through the nose" not "pee right through the nose". I got to admit though, your version is funnier. ROFL

Of course the song itself is contradictory because Boss has said that he "don't cotton to no violence"

Also on Boss's song, I think it's "ornery as a Georgia mule" not "hungry" as one but I'm not positive.

We sure hope you stay here a long time. You sure sound like you belong here.

Just a note, about Carryin on Like We Did Before. Its actually Ten in the Tank, FOOT on the floor. Nothing else makes sense an' you gotta listen real close to hear it because of John and Tom's accents mixed together. But put that in and the chorus makes much more sense lol

My father once told me that "Ten in the tank" meant a ten gallon tank (obviously) and that "Four on the floor" meant something like four cylinders... or four... something to do with the engine.

[Edit: something to do with the gears/gearbox? I can't remember clearly now, it was a while ago.]

It is four on the floor. Refers to the manual transmission (four gears).

As opposed to 'three on the tree', which I don't think I've ever seen over here. From a quick Google search it appears that nearly 85% of cars sold in the US have automatic transmissions. In the UK it's closer to 85% manual (stick) - worth considering if you're visiting and need to hire a car. If you pass your driving test in a manual you can drive an auto, but not vice versa - don't know if it's the same in the US.

(Big Boss Hogg)

I'm the man in charge, round' these here parts and whatever I say, goes.

Try anything in my neck of the woods, and you'll peer right through the nose.

(Big Boss Hogg)

(He's as hungry as a Georgia mule)
