No! Dukes was meant to be a light hearted show that never got TOO heavy and take the viewer to a happy place for a while, away from the mundane!
I could not have seen them tackling assisted suicide or drunk driving.

Now you should try doing the square from the Georgia episodes

Then there'd be the overly PC person.

Also, what happened to all the full-time deputies that ain't Enos or Cletus?

But could any of y'all seen Dukes doing a "very special episode" about a social issue/hot-button topic?

I'd say it was action/adventure/comedy!

It would have sucked then

I'm just glad that there weren't any "(insert character here) takes pills and gets addicted" or "Daisy is almost sexually assaulted" plots.

Could you imagine Dukes with any of the elements I mentioned?

The makers of M*A*S*H didn't want a canned laughter track, but the network did. In the end they compromised, and had laughter on most scenes, but never in the operating room. When the series was originally shown in the UK, the BBC broadcast it without the laughter track, which is how I prefer to watch it.
Doesn't the DVD offer you a choice?

If it had been traditional, there probably would have been an overused laugh track and the show would have tried to be preachy and topical with "very special episodes"

So glad that Dukes wasn't a traditional comedy of the 70s and 80s
