Luke Duke:"And the day we step over that fence, it's gonna be a cold day in-" Uncle Jesse Duke:"You watch yer language! Now, you listen to me, both of you! You boys are reacting to prejudice! The Good Lord put us on this Earth to overcome things like hating people fer something they did to us in the past! Doesn't that make sense to you?"

  5. Roger you are a true sweetheart. You make me smile just about every time. Cravings aren't really my problem, my problem is being hungry constantly. I mean all out stomach growling hungry. I have no idea why I never had this problem before. After I had my first child, I noticed it. Any thoughts anyone?

  6. Here I am to officially testify that I agree with General Grant that she isn't shy about giving her opinion. LOL Whenever her opinion is opposite of mine, that's a sure sign that she's 100% wrong (LOL) but this time she makes sense. A lot of sense. That was a very thoughtful and informative post General. I'm impressed. Nice job. I've been lucky enough to not have to worry about my weight so please feel free to ignore this advice since I'm NOT speaking from experience. Even though all of General Grant's last post was awesome. one word stuck out with me...cravings. People sure have made a lot of money writing books about how to lose weight but if I wrote one it would only have two words..DON'T EAT. Of course I realize it's not that easy but if you could follow those two words of instruction it would be impossible for you to not succeed....unless of course you have some other severe medical condition that factors in. Again, I'm unqualified to give advice but I would focus on making your cravings your enemy and finding out how to muster the strength to defeat that enemy. If it were me, I would simply focus on one thing, cravings. Why are you getting them and how can you stop them. If the problem is in your head, you can find the strength to fix it. Of course exercise is great because it improves your cardio-vascular system and that's important but if you didn't exercise at all and stopped eating as much, you'll lose weight. It's very simple. It's not easy but it is simple. You need to turn your enemy (the cravings) into your friend. When you're eating, you're gaining weight. When you're having cravings, you're losing weight. Losing weight is good so cravings are your friend. Of course, you have to be careful. If you become too friendly with those cravings you could get obsessed and that's not good either. It is possible to be overweight and malnourished. General Grant had good advice by saying you should have realistic goals and not try to lose too much at once. I also liked what she said about fullfilling cravings using healthier alternatives. Well, that's about all I know about it. I'll just sit back and watch and be the cheerleader here. Hey, maybe you should picture Uncle Jesse in a cheerleader outfit. That should make you lose your appetite....unless your name is Emma Tisdale.

  7. No we don't have 'Slimming World' in the US but there are weight loss groups and magizines of all sorts here. Weight Watchers is a common weight loss group or Jenny Craig is another. I'm in one called T.O.P.S. (Taking Off Pounds Sensibily), and it's worked for me. Every T.O.P.S. chapter has meetings once a week and we record our progress. I'm still working on lossing weight and I'm about half way to my goal weight. Then when you have lost your weight in T.O.P.S. you get bumped into being a K.O.P.S. (Keeping Off Pounds Sensibily), they don't just leave you in T.O.P.S., they help you out and keep supporting you for as long as you feel you need it. I realize that I need to stay with T.O.P.S. because of the acountability. Weight loss for some people is something they have to think about every day and have to be concerned about it. I don't have a high enough metabolism to process food like everyone else and yes, it's a struggle for me. However, it's no excuse for me to be overweight and allow myself to slowly kill my body with over-eating or even lack of exercise because I'm born that way. Things that are working for me, is to measure my portions, exercise regularly, eat three sensible meals a day, look for spiritual guidance and drink 8 cups of water a day or more, and not eat two hours before bedtime. These tips, I have stuck by and they have helped me loose a large amount of weight. You're going to have slow weeks and fast weeks, where you loose a lot or bearly any at all. Having a weight problem, a real weight problem, I'm talking about over 50 pounds or more overweight, is like being an alcholic. Food becomes a drug to an severally overweight person. You're also stuck in cycles of habits that are unhealthy and they are hard to break. It's hard for someone who is skinny and never had to deal with this problem to understand what it is like. What spurred me to loose weight? It was a number of issues going on in my life currently, but the biggest one is the realization that I'm creeping up to one of those 'mile stone' birthdays soon and I go 'God am I old! Look at the shape I'm in! I'm going to die if I don't do something.' So yes, I'm trying to loose and I'm thankful you brought this up. Maybe we need a weight loss group on the group section in Hnet, 'The Hazzard Fat Farm'! LOL. Val
