Hey all y'all HazzardNeters... That voice on that show Howdy Doody that says "Hey kids, what time is it?" Is that Sorrell Booke? The voice before the kids say "It's Howdy Doody time!" It sounds like him to me.

Before he was Boss Hogg, Sorrell Booke had a role as a Southern Sheriff in a gum commercial. But the set looks like it could have been in The Dukes of Hazzard, doesn't it?

And little did Sorrell know at the time, but that whole cheek-pinch thing was gonna be stickin' around...

Sorrell Booke commercial

I’m now currently going through the original (1966-1973) spy TV series Mission Impossible. The episode I’m watching now (“Shock” 1967) guest-starred ‘Boss Hogg’ aka Sorrell Booke! He was a bad guy in this episode, too...but a little more deadly than ol’ J.D. was. Here’s a pic from the episode:

Yesterday we went to a restaurant that specializes in burgers and wings. One of the burgers is the "Boss Hog". Had it not been named that I would have picked something else but I couldn't resist it just because of the name. It didn't even bother me that they (possibly intentionally) spelled it with one G. It was so big I think I looked like Boss after I ate it.

I inherited some astronomy items from a professor friend of mine who passed away. One of those items was a book with some records and they are in perfect shape. They are from 1969 when the first man walked on the Moon. I was 9 years old and got to stay up last to watch it. I remember it well. I got a big smile on my face when I saw who the narrator is. You guessed it. Of course we all know that Sorrell was quite a talented and well respected person around Hollywood so after the huge surprise wore off and I thought about it I realized I shouldn't have been too surprised considering how multi-talented he was. What a collectors item!. Dukes and astronomy are huge parts of my life and to be given this gift of a keepsake that combines them is something I am thankful for. Now if I can just find a record player.

Hey,I'm new here but not new to the Dukes.I've been watching since the 1st Episode back in the 70's.I just found out something I didn't know,I used to watch the show Alice back in the 80's,and thought I'd seen about everyone of the Episodes. One I didn't see was in Season 8-Episode 6 Titled "Mel is Hogg-Tied",Sorrell guest stars as Boss Hogg. And what little I found out about the Episode is that Boss Hogg comes to Town to see Waitress Jolene, and then tricks Mel into selling the Diner for $1.I would love to see this episode,if anyone has seen it let me know more about it,and how it was...

Thought I'd put up a couple of pics of Sorrell before he became Boss Hogg.

The first is from a Dukes book I have. In 1962 he played the title role in the musical (stage production) of 'Fiorello!'.

The second is from one of his 2 appearances as Gen.
Boss always wanted to be Governor of Georgia but lately a different Governor has been getting a little publicity for Boss.

Before leaving office Governor Haley Barbour of Mississippi pardoned a few people from jail and that's been stirring up a lot of controversy on a national level.

Since the moderators here are smart enough to not let us talk about politics, I'll be careful how I word this and not discuss the pardons themselves. Yesterday morning, a panel of folks were talking on CNN about Haley Barbour and several references were made comparing him to Boss Hogg. Tonight on CNN the attorney general of Mississippi was also making references to Boss Hogg.

I sure got a chuckle out of it.

By the way, CNN is based it Atlanta. That's just a coincidence of course but it does make the story even funnier.

I have often contended that Sorrell Booke and James Best may be the most underrated comedic team in the history of television. Some of Sorrell's facial expressions and comments to Rosco are classic material. What many people fail to realize is one, Sorrell wore padded suits throughout the show and could speak five languages. He was every bit as important to the show as Tom, Cathy, and John were. A terrific actor that doesn't get nearly the credit he richly deserves.

I was watching 'Farewell Hazzard' the other night and wondered which wig y'all think suits Boss the best?. I'm sure, like Rosco, we all liked Boss's 'little chrome dome, when it was smooth like a baby's bottom' the best, so I haven't given that as an option. The last option wasn't in 'Farewell Hazzard', but I couldn't leave it out:).

NB. There were 2 curly wigs and 2 black wigs - I left one of each out to keep the number of options reasonable. Against my better judgement I have spelt 'Gray' the US way (we spell it Grey) as I'm sure there are more members in the US.

My kids were just watching a Christmas episode of Full House on ABC Family channel and Sorrell was on. It was an episode from 1988, where everyone was stranded at an airport and little Michelle ripped of Boss's tupe' . In the end he was really Santa Clause and appeared dressed up as Santa, then magically disappeared. It was neat, cause I've never seen him perform anything else besides Boss. He still had a little southern draw in his voice.
