Good news and bad news

Recommended Posts

I'm usually pretty open about my health. You guys know I've been sick for a while now (about 2 1/2 years). My doctors and I assumed it was my autoimmune disease because the symptoms were indicative of that. So, we've been treating it that way. I wasn't getting any better though. So, last December, I insisted that my GI doc do an endoscopy to check on some issues. Well, on March 13th, she informed me that one of the samples she had taken for biopsy turned out to be neuroendocrine cancer (the bad news). Turns out neuroendocrine cancer, which is rare, also has a lot of the same symptoms of my autoimmune disease.

I saw an oncologist and he ordered a PET scan, which I found out yesterday showed the cancer had not spread (the good news). Also good news is that they caught it early, it's a slow growing cancer, and it's just in the right spot to totally avoid chemo and/or radiation. I really didn't want to talk about it until I knew exactly what I was dealing with. It has been a crazy rollercoaster ride. I'm mostly upbeat and positive, but there are times when it's incredibly hard, especially when the severe fatigue and GI symptoms hit.

I'll be having surgery soon to remove the tumor and recovery might take a few months. You're in good hands with Hoss looking after the place though. :)

Hi MM. We haven’t spoke in many years. I was dukes69 on our old AOL chat room.  I guess by chance (or pre-destination) I found your thread, really I was only looking for the actual model CB antenna used on the General.  I’m sorry to hear about what you are going through. On May 20th will be 6 years my wife has been dealing with colon cancer. She’s still with us and doing good.   She has had many surgeries, way too much chemo, etc.  If you need someone to talk to, don’t hesitate to contact me and I’ll put her in touch with you. We’ve learned a lot over the years and she loves helping people.

Take care. We wish you the best

-Chris

Speaking of PETS I see Rosco's pet is showing off his velvet ears in this picture. I love it when Rosco says "Good news, good news!" Thank you so much for telling us about this MM. Please keep us posted as much as possible. I'm sure I speak for everybody when I say how much we love and appreciate you. By keeping Dukes alive in the manner that you have, you have become a celebrity in your own right. But life is bigger than the Dukes of Hazzard *gasps* (did I really just say that?!). As much as we love the show in a fantasy sense we love the reality of the people who acted in it, worked behind the scenes and...now 40 years later....keep it fresh, exciting and new. Which means that you....in a 2019 kinda way....are the biggest Dukes star out there. And we are proudly your biggest fans.  Every Dukes episode has a happy ending and this episode will too. *hugs* wait a second, what's happening now?....*MM fans gather coming in from all directions....*group hug*

AOL chat! Those were the days! That was such a good time for the DOH fandom.

It's amazing how many people have come to me and offered an ear to listen and answer questions since I have gone public with my diagnosis. And, surprisingly, they're all people with GI cancers like I have (though not the exact same type of cancer). I think I'm good for now, but thank you for the offer and if I have questions or need to talk, you'll hear from me!

Thanks. I really appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers. It really boosts my spirits. Quick little update. My oncologist called today. He sent my scan results to a surgeon and I should be meeting with the surgeon soon. I looked the surgeon up on the internet, 5 stars everywhere I look, so that inspires a lot of confidence. I'm in good hands. Spirits are high, though right now I'm not feeling so great. Hopefully a good night's sleep will help.

Hey Meadow....I was just thinking....you know on these reviews that people give....well, all it takes is for just one little knit picker to get her panties in a wad and there you go! His clean record is over! This doctor really must be something, not to even get ONE slightly negative feedback!

Good point Hobie. This surgeon sounds even better than Doc Abelby and Doc Petticort. And if it helps any Hobie can send some of his finest and I could ship off some of Jesse and Swamp Molly's wild medicinal herbs. It's spring time so they're popping up all over around here. I'm packing up some Mayapple, Coltsfoot, plantain and marsh marigold right now. This stuff works as good as Grannie's. Of course her and Jed and Jethro and Ellie Mae are out there in Beverly Hills now and it doesn't grow there so they can't help you any.

There were even at least 2 reviews that said "he saved my life!", so that's a pretty great testimonial.

From the sound of it, even if he turns out to be just HALF as good as he sounds....you'll just WALK through all this !! You'll wake up one morning and think you dreamed it!  And YES!!...I have some of my finest shine,  saved for you and all of us in Hazzard, to celebrate when you're home! :) ( Unless you want to break into it a little early....you never waste a sip....!! ;) )

The surgeon's nurse called today to set up an office visit for next Monday to discuss the surgery. Can't wait until this is all over with! :)

Keep us up on it with a play by play...that way we'll know when to start getting ready for the big celebration! :)

When you're done with all this and back home, we're all gonna party like Uncle Jesse would have, if he had ever finally paid off his mortgage to boss!!

More good news! The surgeons are opting for the less invasive surgery. The resection for that area is risky and my situation doesn't warrant that kind of risk. They're confident they can get all the cancer with an endoscopic surgery. Just waiting for the surgeon's office to call and schedule the surgery now.
