Favorite country artists?

TK is one of my favorite artists and I have most of his CDs...I know I don't have his "Blue Moon" album, but think I have all the rest so I will most likely get his new one too. His new song is comical as is the video. (Though I wouldn't say I am a fan of plastic swimming pools or of good looking women washing cars...) I think I like his older stuff a bit better than the newer, but still a huge TK fan. ;)

My other favorites are: Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Alan Jackson, and Tim McGraw. (If y'all couldn't tell by my musical chairs selection ;) ).

Country doesn't have the same following this side of 'The Pond'. We have no CMT, and it certainly wasn't 'hip' to be into Country when I grew up. Having said that, I've always had a wide-ranging and eclectic taste in music, and tend to buy what I like, no matter what others think.

When I hit my 30s I had to admit that some of my favorite movies and TV shows had Country soundtracks, and I liked them. For those of you who've seen 'Every Which Way But Loose', you'll remember that Clint Eastwood tries chatting up a sociology major at The Palamino who thinks that the Country-Western mentality is 'somewhere between moron and dull-normal' - makes me laugh every time - then again Clint does put some false teeth in her food. The great soundtrack to that movie contains songs by artists like Charlie Rich, Mel Tillis (got to like a man who recorded 'I got the Hoss' :)) and Eddie Rabbitt.

I guess I'm more old school than most of y'all, listening to artists like those above, Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, Jerry Reed etc. I'm always open to new artists, so reading other people's favorites just gives me something else to try. Looks like I'd better check out Toby Keith - I've only got 3 tracks by him at present.

I like country but am not a fan of the Nashville "pop" country sound.

I like a lot of the less mainstream country - Jason Boland & The Stragglers, Stoney LaRue, Aaron Watson, Roger Creager, Pat Green, The Randy Rogers Band, Casey Donahew and one of the best "outlaws" Jackson Taylor & The Sinners.

Here is Jackson Taylor's song "Country Song". I agree 100% with his take on the state of country music. He is also a great guy, met him and hung out with him when I was in Texas.

Thanks Capt. - I haven't come across any of these artists; they just don't play this stuff over here. I enjoyed the track you posted, so I'll check out some of the others now. Warning: that track does contain some bad language - doesn't bother me, but if it's not your thing, you've been warned.
