Map of Hazzard County

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I am new to HazzardNet, and I am a big fan of Dukes Of Hazzard. I have all 7 seasons and the two reunion movies all on DVD. I am going to try to tackle the huge task of making my own map of Hazzard County. I am not going in order of episodes, but skipping around to perhaps catch any inconsistencies :) . For my map I am including roads, water, landforms, villages/place names, landmarks, businesses, citizens, and farms with the proper land owners.

One thing I am trying to drill into my brain are that counties are BIG. And that is going to be in my mind throughout this entire project.

Even though Hazzard County is small, it must have other towns in it other than just Hazzard. I the several episodes I have recently watched they mentioned that "Coreyville" is the county seat of Hazzard County, and I do believe Colonial City is in Hazzard County. I also believe that there are no incorporated towns in Hazzard County, as there are no mayors just Boss Hogg, the only member of the county commission. Anyone have anyother town names in Hazzard County (1970s-1980s, not Sleepy City thats 1872).

Thanks for the help!! I'll keep you updated!!

Welcome to the HazzardNet RJKing. I'm pretty excited to hear that someone else is interested in a map of Hazzard. Go to "Hobbies" and click on "map of Hazzard". There you will find 8 pages of mapmaking ideas and comments.

This is just a suggestion but if you start posting all your mapmaking stuff there, it will make it easier for someone (in the future) who wants to explore this subject because everything will be organized in one place.

I can't wait to talk to you more about this subject. You are going to make a great addition to this website!!!!

In Baa Baa White Sheep, Luke and Daisy have to go into Finchburg County, which is over the state line. I looked up Finchburg, AL and there is such a place, and there is no Finchburg in Tennessee.

So I believe that Hazzard County bordered both Tennessee and Alabama. I believe Tennessee bordered Hazzard because of the Beaudrys lived in Tennessee, and Rosco still had jurisdiction until the state line. But then there is the problem of Choctaw County, it is on the northwestern border of Hazzard County. So perhaps Choctaw County was only bordered by one Georgia county, Hazzard, and Alabama and Tennessee on the other sides.

NOTE: The race between Uncle Jesse and Boss in supposed to go into Hatchapee County, but when they meet at Cooter's to discuss the route Cooter says "with one invasion into Choctaw County, that's Sheriff Loomis' territory." Isn't Sheriff Loomis, Hatchapee County Sheriff? And why isn't Hatchapee County on the map? Maybe Hatchapee County had an agreement with Choctaw County that Sheriff Loomis' jurisdiction would be Choctaw County as well? But in Double Sting there is Choctaw County Sheriff Emmett Ragsdale, so maybe Choctaw County got rid of him and just used Hatchapee County.

The occasion that stands out to me is in the episode "Officer Daisy Duke", the bandits use a map of Hazzard to locate the airfield. I've seen it used in many other episodes as well by almost every character.

You can tell the creators had to come up with a map of some sort to iron out any of the inconsistancies the show might have when it comes to directions..

I've hoped to stumble upon the map on eBay or by chance here knowing someone has a copy, because it shows where Hazzard stands mapped out, and it'd help us out with this thread greatly as well.

I came across this map when double checking my clues for the soon-to-be published 3rd trivia crossword (dang it, that'll give away one of the answers:)).

You can't read anything in the long shot, but close up all but the main name are reversed. Is this a real map that anyone recognises?. It looks like the new text was added after the original was 'distressed' with correction fluid and tears.

Okay, I couldn't resist this lil' mystery so I did some searching...

First thing I did was I reversed the image so I could see the roads.

Morgansreversed.jpg

Then I used Google maps to find anywhere there was a Pleasant Hill Road. Not the best road to start with as there are a lot of Pleasant Hill Roads in the US, but most where in California and Georgia. So, I searched for "Ygnacio" and matched with a town in California. As soon as I found Ygancio I found Highway 24, Pleasant Hill, Mt. Diablo Blvd, and St. Mary's Road, which match with some of the markings on that map from the screen cap.

Thus, we're in Walnut Creek, CA. LOL. It's east of Oakland and south of Sacramento. I overlaid the Morgan's Airfield map on the Google map and turned it in the same direction. It matches up pretty well.

Morgansairfieldmap.jpg

Why I felt compelled to solve this little mystery, I dunno. But there you have it! ;)

Great detective work there MaryAnne. Who would have thought that the nearest small landing strip to Hazzard was just across the bay from San Francisco. No wonder Daisy went to a different airfield when she was learning to fly the crop duster.

I didn't plan to follow this up so soon. I was watching season 2 episodes to try to get a clear screen grab of the COLD BEER sign outside the Boars Nest to complete my Boars Nest sign: http://www.hazzardnet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7044&page=5 (scroll down to see it).

Then I saw Cooter had a map for the Jesse vs Boss race in 'Days of Shine and Roses'. I couldn't get a clear grab, but watched it through about 3 times.

HazzMap1.jpg

I could make out the name I've marked '1' ended with 'ville'. That didn't narrow it down much since there's loads a places in the US with this ending as I found recently when posting the old map of the the L & N:

http://www.hazzardnet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3368&highlight=michelle+shocked&page=2 (2nd post on this page).

The place I've marked '2' says 'Fort de Vaux' which was a fort near Verdun in France which was attacked by the Germans in 1916. You can read about it here: http://pierreswesternfront.punt.nl/?id=414014&r=1&tbl_archief=&

That meant the name marked '3' must be Damloup (it's unclear due to being in the fold of the map). Finally that leaves us with the real location of Hazzard: Dieppe-sous-Douaumont, near Verdun, France. Considering it's location I guess the correct exclamation is 'voila'!

Google translate gives 'choc' as French for 'shock', so 'choc ta' is 'shock your'.

With Choctaw County, and I assume Choctaw Ridge so close, I'm surprised no-one on the show ever mentioned Billy Joe MacAllister jumping off the Tallahatchie Bridge.

Different Choctaw. Choctaw Ridge is in Mississippi. Being such a local event, I doubt the news about Billy Joe got to Hazzard. LOL. Though, I suspect Rosco might have some knowledge of the event. *ahem*

I suppose Mississippi is quite a long way from France, especially if news had to go via the 'local' airfield in California. Thanks for putting me straight.

Maybe we should call Dukes by it's French name now we know the truth: Shérif, fais-moi peur! (translated literally this means something like 'Sheriff, frighten me', however if you use Google's French to English translator it now tells you 'Shérif, fais-moi peur!' means' Dukes of Hazzard' - there's progress in action).

You folks are smarter than Columbo, better looking than Charlie's Angels, more clever than Sherlock Holmes and more fun to be around than Shaggy and Scooby-Do. If I ever need a detective I'm heading to the HazzardNet.

I'm sure you're right about MaryAnne and MeadowMufn, but these days I'd settle for more fun to be around than Colombo, and better looking than Scooby Doo:).

Dang it - I've gone and left my 3 foot high sandwich in the pocket of my dirty old raincoat again.

This map is from near the start of 'Double Dukes' in season 4. It was not as clear as the previous maps and also harder because so much of it was written on by hand, obscuring the original detail. Possibly some of you will recognise it straight away - I didn't.

HazzMap6.jpg

I convinced myself that the town at the bottom, roughly midway between the two thick lines, was 'Paradise'. The highway number between 'NTY' and 'TEVILLE' is a single digit and likely to be odd as the highway is running north-south. Luckily I tried Highway 5 first which took me to just north of Sacramento.

HazzMap4.jpg

So Colonial City is actually Redding, CA. Below is the long shot with the actual map next to it.
