Chris, Nancy and Daniel Benoit deaths

There have been other tragic deaths in professional wrestling entertainment.

Monday June 25th – Late afternoon media reports of the tragedy. WWE aired a 3 hour tribute, half an hour before that program is over… news leak that it’s a possible double murder and suicide. More details at a 3 pm press conference the following afternoon.

Tuesday June 26th – law enforcement press conference. Being investigated as a double murder and suicide not the triple murder, many were considering. WWE begins the task of removing Chris’s legacy from their website.

One co worker said they would remember Chris for everything but those last few days of his life. The Chris Benoit he knew was not the monster who killed his wife and son yet left the two family dogs alive.

Weeks have gone by and still false information exists.

Tuesday July 17th, 2007 -The toxicology reports press conference. Empty beer cans were reported to be in a trash can or strewn across the basement floor, the media did not get clarification. Chris had no alcohol in his system. Nancy had .18, could be natural decomposition result. And even if she did have a few alcoholic beverages, that is not what caused this tragedy.

Did Chris Benoit have some hidden dark side that no one knew about? A celebrity figure is not immune to having physical or physiological issues.

There were prescription drugs found in the home. The couple and Daniel had Xanax in their systems. Nancy and Chris also had therapeutic levels of pain relief management in theirs. Did Chris take a substance that by the time the autopsy and toxicology specimens were being done, had left his system?

“Steroids made him do it,†just seemed to easy an excuse.

It’s plausible, a domestic disagreement over a schedule conflict led to Nancy’s death. Maybe Chris suffered some mental imbalance. His co workers and the few people he allowed into his life as a friend, all said he was quiet. Focused on others. It’s been commented that he was not the same after three friends passed away from November 2005 to February 2006.

I understand people who still have a hard time believing Chris could have done this. Chris was known to fly home to spend time with Daniel for a few hours, in-between traveling from city to city for his work. He took four months off work when Nancy had surgery. He brought Daniel to matches, the last time seems to be two weeks before the murders. People searching for a reason that makes this easier to understand. Actually a month ago, I was one of those people. Going from website to website, news channel to news channel…awake for almost 50 straight hours. Rereading and rewatching coverage.

Someone posted a few photos in 2000. Daniel less than a few days old. Nancy and Chris holding him in a hospital room. I wondered if Daniel would have a career in the business.

DNA tests pertaining to crime scene evidence needs to be completed. Police must be confident in their investigation results. All three were cremated.

Saturday July 14th, a memorial service was held for Nancy and Daniel. It was nice to finally hear actual people in Nancy’s current life share about her. Instead of someone who hadn’t spent any time with her or only knew her when she was active in the wrestling business, ten years ago or more. People who didn’t even know her or Daniel.

The dogs are rumored to be with family friends. Something good from this tragedy…

Wednesday July 18th Greta Van Susteren – Chavo Guerreo was interviewed. He was the co worker who Chris lied to on Saturday June 23rd. That detail had gotten lost in the focus on steroids. Chris also lied to a talent relations official between 5:30 – 6:00pm.

Family, Friends, wrestling industry people interviewed over the last several weeks, did not object to this being labeled a double murder – suicide from the first press conference.

Friday July 20th Nancy Grace – wrestling newsletter editor Bryan Alvarez made a comment about Chris destroying stuff in the home. He felt there was a reason why the steroids were left. Nancy did not ask him to explain further, it was end of the segment.

Tuesday July 24th – spent 3 hours viewing segments of Hard Knocks: The Chris Benoit Story. It was made in 2004.

Wednesday July 25th – reviewed some internet forums and this document.

I saw a question posted of how others would remember Chris Benoit…

Chris’s actions were his own. From the pre teen who dreamed to be a professional wrestler. For 22 years, it was the only adult job he ever had. He did something very bad.

Rest In Peace, Nancy and Daniel.

That last line should read RIP - Nancy, Daniel & Chris.

A few more talk show discussions since the original post.

September 5th – Chris’s dad Michael Benoit on Good Morning America. Sports Legacy Institute website announcement in regards to tests done.

10:40am press conference.

Tests showed Chris Benoit did have brain damage.

September 6th – Michael Benoit & Sports Legacy Institute personnel appeared on Larry King Live about the results.

November 7th – CNN “Death Grip: Inside Pro Wresting†documentary.

2008

February 7th - Canadian Broadcasting’s The 5th Estate “A Fight To The Death†documentary.

February 12th – criminal investigation completed.

There is still misinformation. No amount of discussion or books might ever reveal why the tragedy occurred on Green Meadow Lane.

Yeah, as horrible as this tragedy is, i'm glad that the murder committed wasn't of Benoit's own free will so to speak. The brain damage you refer to made Benoit's brain look something like a 76 year old Alzhiemer's patient and was caused by all the steel chair blows to the head and punches he took instead of blocking them as other wrestlers do. Its very very sad, Benoit was a one of a kind wrestler and despite this he still has my respect.
