Are you sure it's translated like that Hobie? We have a beer in in the Netherlands called Bavaria, which is from the Province of Brabant here in the Netherlands. Who would name their Dutch company a German name in English? And its not the original owners Surname either as that is Vereijken.

Bavarian Motor Works is the correct English translation of Bayerische Motoren Werke (see Wikipedia). In English, BMW's headquarters are in Munich, Bavaria (München, Bayern in German).

The Bavaria Beer name was only adopted in 1923 when three brothers of the fifth generation of Swinkels took over leadership and moved production to a larger brewery in Lieshout. The name refers to the type of beer - it's a pale lager which is brewed using techniques developed by brewers in Bavaria, Germany.
