Facts I must point out about this show!!!

Recommended Posts

I was 7 years old when the show 1st aired in '79. I loved Smokey & The Bandit "original movie" but hadn't seen it & that age yet. This show was the best thing since catfish and hush-puppies for S&B fans on a weekly basis.

The 1st 5 episodes are the only shows that I recognize. When they moved it to Hollywood it just went down hill from there on. I'll give them credit & 1st they tried to @ least make a effort for 1 or 2 shows for it to appear to be Georgia or a "real town" with paved roads, etc but the plot changed, from what I remember they picked up new writers, producers, etc. based on behind the scenes specials about the show. James Best even called the CA set a "sess-pool" as he hated it as well.

You just can beat the shows that was filmed in GA. Quality story lines, real town with a multi-officer Sherriffs Dept, Rosco wasn't: P. Coltrane, he wasn't as ignorant, the background music was GREAT, along with the chase scenes, the cars they used, the locations they filmed, story lines, etc!

Most people think of the show as that ignorant Hollywood set, dirt roads, only 2 lawmen and ignorant story lines but I remember a BETTER TIME. I just hate the way they messed-up a good show. I honestly don't see how it lasted as long as it did. It simply would have done BETTER had they left it in GA and the story lines the way it started out.

I loved in the previews the tune that played that started out showing the guitar be played...... in the ORIGINAL GA shows!!!

Now as I look on the internet, I've NEVER seen 1 GL replica that looks like the original 1st 5 episodes. It had the flags on the rear deck in front of the CB antenna, a dark brown or black interior, head rest on the seats in the up position, and to refer again to the 1st episode again chrome trim along the bottom of the car from wheel-well to wheel-well and a REAL roll cage with front hoop! I honestly think that was only 1 car and was the "original GL" as that is mostly all you saw in the 1st show, then @ the end they used it for that jump scene which was attached to the end of the theme song thru-out the show. Also the front push-bar is suppose to be small NOT that big thing!!

What ever happened to Sweet-Tilly, Jessies moonshine running black Ford LTD??

What happened to all the deputies on the Sherriffs Dept?

What happend to the boys probabtion officer, that hot looking chic?

The list goes on and on!!

This are things I just had to express, I don't know if anyone has ever discussed these things before but it's been bugging me to get it out on a public forum. This is my 1st post and 1st time to ever visit this site! I watched the 1st 5 episodes the other day and compared to the "others" :( as they was playing on CMT and it just sadend me sssooo that I had to vent. If I had more time i'd cover more things but i've got a LOT of work to do.

It's nice to have a place to vent and discuss this.

I'll start out by saying I disagree with most of your post buikman.Apparently you've never been to cglfc.com.Go there and check out Club Generals Bubba Williams car it fits almost all your criteria and you are incorrect about wheel well molding LEE 1 didn't have it which is the General to which you are referring.Go watch the episode on DVD. I assume you have the DVD? I can explain why the Generals from then on didn't have the aluminum rocker molding on them like LEE 1 and if they did have it was painted over to maintain consistency also that was a very rare option on a 69 Charger which mine has. That's basically why the crossed flags were removed also. One less detail to replicate on every General and to maintain consistency. Most guys that have Generals have families also and a full roll cage means no back seat which makes it inconvenient to carry more than 2 people. Here is My General. I just prefer the later pushbars myself and I haven't removed the wheel molding or added a roll bar yet.. 455318_2_full.jpg

yes seen some few but his covington GA after dukes move other place before the "IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT" release in 1988 to 1995 same place near court house where General Lee drove pass by... that why I almost not remember those one where they film there for short time.. and You would watch this series about "IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT" where Carroll O'Connor did film there in Covington GA.. that why I like this town.. that nice town. thanks. :)

James Best was one of the people who suggested they make it a family show (if it hadn't become that, the show wouldn't have been a part of my childhood). The Georgia location was more down to Earth (although, I do have to wonder how they would have handled swarms of fans at those locations), but I really prefer the silly, funny, family mood of the show in the last 140 episodes.
