  1. 1. I don't mind OC's (original characters) so long as they are brought in gradually and the author has spent time fleshing them out properly. One pet peeve though are OC's with names that don't fit with the setting.

    2. First person stories are pretty rare and there's a reason. I pretty much skip anything that starts with. "I walked into..." Same goes with stories written in present tense. "She walks into the room and looks at him." I've read 1 story by 1 author that actually made that work (not in the DOH fandom, it was an AiW story).

    3. Proof-read...please! A few mistakes will always slip through, but when you're dodging one misspelling after another, it's hard to decipher the point of the story.

    4. Don't just have strictly conversation. Think about what the character would be doing and put that in. Assume we as readers are imagining the characters on a blank white background and they are speaking in monotone. If you want us to invision them saying something a certain way or in a certain place, describe those things, it makes the story richer.

    5. When you write conversation, think about how people actually talk. No one I know actually says, "We will be going to the park this afternoon. We will eat ham sandwiches. Please come with us."

Don't you mean... "Hey, we're going to the park later. You wanna come and eat some sandwiches with us?" or something like that...you get the point.

*None of this is directed at anyone on here or in the DOH fandom, I just happened to have just read a...um...less than wonderful... fanfic in a completely different fandom about an hour ago, lol, so it's all fresh in my mind.

I was just reading through some old threads and I find EnosIsMyHero's list here is still right on the money. All of the pet-peeves listed really knock me out of a story still as well.

  2. Good point. I guess I'm part of the problem.

At this point in the Hazzardnet's life it doesn't look like any one person is able to fix it. I just have to accept that things may never pick up. The only hope I have is that somebody realizes that we're ready for a new Dukes show. Redoing the series Dallas has been wildly successful and I think the same could be done for Dukes. That would bring us back to our heyday...maybe....I guess a lot of the problem is folks doing facebook type things and less forums.

I agree that a new show could be successful as long as it wasn't moved to modern day times. Let's face it, we now live in political correctness H:censored:L!! But they could find some unknown actors and put them in those roles, or even expand it. Give us a look at the other characters of the show. Or start one off with JESSE in his prime with his pack of brothers!! :banana:Oh! I can see it now... It could be even wilder than the original show. ;) Why not? Movies have prequels; let's give the Dukes one. I'll even volunteer to help write it.

  3. Does anyone know if Christopher Hensel, AKA: Jebb Stuart Duke, ever goes to any of the Dukes events? I'd love to add his autograph to my collection. I almost never see anything about him on Dukes forums and I was just wondering. Yes, I know he was only in one episode but he was still a Duke Boy.

In addition, what about Randy Hamilton who played Luke's brother?

  4. When is it coming back on again? We like it too. I hope I haven't been missing episodes.

I also like Duck Dynasty and Dallas.

And I hardly ever miss the local and national news headlines.

OUAT returns on September 28th. The spin off will start on October tenth I believe. I love that I can't predict what will happen in OUAT and that it allows me to escape reality for a while.

  5. The trophy flying off scared me, but my name being called didn't. It sound like my love calling for me. The only thing it did was make me miss him even more.

Be wary of believing that a lost love is calling for you. Demonic spirits have the full ability to mimic those that you care about to lull you into a belief that you are safe. After all, Lucifer was called the Father of all Lies. For an evil spirit to sound like one that you know/knew is very easy for them.

I've had my name called out, I've had knives thrown at me, my brother's gun went off, been levitated and seen my brother thrown around like a rag doll, witnessed eery glows without a natural light source, choked, you name it.

Always approach any haunting as if it is not from God, first. Because frankly, supernatural experiences ordained by him are extremely few and far between. This is one area that so many do not know how to handle since most organized religions ignore it. That doesn't help folks considering if they don't get answers from their religious leaders then they will go looking for them elsewhere and some places are downright dangerous. That is one reason why I'm doing my best to write a Sunday School lesson type plan for "God's Truths in the Paranormal".

  6. I usually don't allow my emotions free rein in my writing. Mainly because I don't allow them much in my day to day life either; a form of a defense mechanism due to issues of the past. However, my current chapter that I'm writing deals with things that were very close to home and as a result, I could only write a few sentences at a time before not being able to continue for a while.

For me, while I can invoke emotions in the readers, I don't permit myself to feel them typically since doing so is too draining to write. For those that write by emotions, this may seem odd but it is how I have learned that I MUST write. If I allow the terror, fear, anxiousness, anger or any of the other emotions that I cause my characters/readers to feel to seep into myself then I'd never finish anything. I know that eventually I’ll have to find a balance between writing/reading the emotions and feeling them on a not so personal level but for now, I know that I’ll either be on one extreme or the other and for my own sake, I choose to be on the side that is easier on my own emotional well-being. I’d hate to end up in therapy just because I couldn’t detach myself from the writing. LOL!!

  7. Writing styles and responses to muses evolve over time. Of course you won't be able to write as you did back in college. You have evolved too even if you haven't noticed. You have to find a way to meld the changes in both you and your muse to be able to hold on to her once you've moved from one stage of your life to another.

  8. The more I write, the more I've become strict 'bout plots, characterizations, adherence to the original show, and so on. And my muse too.

I'm the same way. I am VERY selective in what I read. I've noticed that stories that I enjoyed 2 or 3 years ago are stories that I can't make myself read now since I find every single typo and plot-hole that I missed back when I was inexperienced. I then get on writer's nerves when I try to be helpful by pointing out what needs to be corrected.

The critical reader in me also makes it where 99% of the stories that I open up are never even read through the first chapters since I can tell very fast that it just isn't for me. Though perhaps that is for the best in some aspect since I was once given the advice to try to read works that are a higher quality of your own in order to improve your own writing since your writing will be influenced by what you read. Garbage in = Garbage out. So as your own writing improves so will your inner reader's ability at appreciating greater qualities of work.

  9. Thanks i1976. I only wish that the ones that sent Pm's about her would leave reviews on the story. LOL!! Too shy for the review boards I guess. Kira is their "Guilty Pleasure" and they don't want others to know that they've gotten wrapped up in her and Jebb's story. Of course this story will be underway for a few chapters before a small glimpse of Jebb will be added.

Speaking of Kira, though, she has made her first appearance in a SEPARATE story altogether. I've loaned her out to DixieDavenport. I typed up scenes for her based on what she wanted and then she tweaked them to fit her story better and has just posted a chapter with Kira.

  10. Some people say we have to look at the future, always. I don't think so: I'm the kind of person who looks a lot at the past, to remember where I'm from and why I'm this way.

That's similar to the phrase that I have up on my Facebook page.

History is the road map of where we've been. Without looking to where we've come from and how we got there, it is impossible to appreciate where we are. Without knowing where we are, how can we plan where we want to go tomorrow?

Anyway, I have started writing a new story based on the requests that I've received from readers to learn more about my OC Kira before she met the Dukes so I am writing on that story since Coy isn't talking to me lately. I'll be posting the second chapter of A Life of Hazards over on FFN in about an hour or so.

  11. There is a spam email going around to fans of John Schneider that all should be aware of. The sender of the message will be identified as "Bo Duke" so it should certainly raise flags for fans immediately anyway. Anyone with half a brain should be able to figure out that is isn't really "Bo Duke" sending the emails but still, I figured that I'd pass on the warning. The message would be as follows if it ends up in your inbox:

    "Hello

I'm writing this message to you with sadness in my heart. I came down here to Philippines with my family for a short vacation but unfortunately, we were mugged and robbed at the park of the hotel where we stayed. All cash, credit cards and cell phones were stolen off us but luckily for us we still have our lives and passports.

We've been to the embassy and the Police here but they're not helping issues at all and our flight leaves in less than 5hrs from now but we are having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let us leave until we settle the bills can you help us out? Get back to me immediately to let you know the easiest way to get the fund to us.

We are depressed at the moment.

    Thank.

    Onward!

    Schneider"

  12. Aw!!! Cute!! I should post my pics of my chickens I got back on Halloween. 3 roosters and 10 hens (I think since they are still a little young to really be sure). They are my babies and love it when they gather around for some goodies.

BTW: We had a "Guard Duck" when I was little. "Quackers" was yard trained to only go to one particular spot to potty and never left the yard. He would attack any one or any thing that got into the yard. LOL!!!

  13. Here is a challenge. I was on another site looking through the stories and put Boss and Lulu in the characters to sort for stories and not a SINGLE story popped up. That is a shame. How about a challenge to write about how a young J.D. caught the eye of the sweet, ever-lovin' Lulu. The untold story.

  14. Well after returning to reality after the holidays...well heard this song on my MP3 player and it made my day a lil better. So I thought I would post it...

Love this song and the video...then again I love about every song on the DOH soundtrack. Also heard James Best's "Go Flash Go" as well...makes me smile everytime...puts me in anoth DOH episode.

The General Lee, is in my opinion, the best car. Ever. Then again, my opinions are heavily biased since I love everything about The Dukes of Hazzard.

One of my first trys at writing a couple of years ago was turning that song into a one-shot. LOL!! Loved the song!!

  15. A few days ago as I was driving down the local highway in the company vehicle, a similar sound floated on the radio waves and the tune from the local classic rock station sent a pang in my sentimental heart. The song that played was called "Wild Horses" and was performed by the band "The Rolling Stones". I felt my lip quiver and I could have cried but I knew I needed to keep my composure because I was picking up two of my "clients" in about a half hour and confidence is of the essence in my line of work. For it was about five years ago, I was sitting in a tiny dorm room, curled in a blanket and typing the Romance of a muse whom I adore. I could only dream of her life, and so I did in fan fiction. I met brilliant writers in Hnet and had been writing along side them about five years before that moment. We wrote, we composed masterpieces of computer written adventures that lived in our heads and were expressed with the tales and myths we wrote of the world of Hazzard and all who lived there. Some of the fables that were expressed were so soul filled that they needed background music as we wrote. One such song that was used with my muse and another was that very song, "Wild Horses". I could feel the muse that was buried inside my mind cry with tears. She ached for the love of her craft and for the fellow muses and their talents.

I hope to return to writing but the life that I currently live has little time for my muse. However there is time for her, someday.

I'm glad that you have reconnected with your muse. Now hold on to her and don't let her go. My own abandoned me about two months ago so I can feel your pain when it was gone. I'm happy for you.

  16. Here's another inconsistancy: Uncls Jessie's wife's name! She was referred to as " Aunt Lovinia and as Martha!

Actually, when Martha was mentioned she wasn't actually called his wife. We just have a name and that it was hard for him when she died. I friend has started to write a story where Martha is explain away as being Jesse's daughter which fits since she was careful to not say anything that could be contradicted in the canon. Its always just assumed that she was his wife. Yes, we know that the writers just slipped but it's nice to not break the forth wall when trying to keep everything all lined up.

Besides, I like the idea of Lavinia and Jesse having a kid. They made great parents for our favorite cousins. Why shouldn't they have had a kid of their own.
