I think that the active lifestyle goes with the job and the money. A lot of the F1 drivers enjoy interesting hobbies and pastimes. It doesn't even have to be play. Aston Martin's Lance Stroll injured himself in a cycling accident while training for the new season. He missed pre-season testing, but in qualifying today he put his car in 8th place for tomorrow's race. The Red Bulls locked out the front row of the grid for tomorrow's Bahrain Grand Prix, but gaps between the other cars were pretty tight, so we should have some close racing this year.
  2. I can't afford it either, but it seems cheap for such an iconic classic car. You'd find it difficult to get a 1969 Dodge Charger for that money, and I found a couple of General Lee replicas on sale for $75k-$80k.
  3. It looks like the cheaper sedans have been selling for under $35k (some for even less) over the last couple of years, but the convertibles are considerably more.

As Roger said, stay in touch and stop by to say "hello" every now and then. Remember, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!

The 2023 F1 season finally starts this weekend with the Bahrain Grand Prix, and the big news is that Lewis Hamilton will be allowed to wear his nose studs in the car despite a jewelry ban. OK, there are bigger stories, but that still got a mention. The Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez looked quick in the practice sessions, but it was Fernando Alonso in his first race for Aston Martin who headed the second practice this afternoon. Whether that translates into a good starting position will be determined in tomorrow's qualifying. Mercedes seem to be starting the season off the pace again, but we'll find out on Sunday.
  8. Can everyone please just reply to the most recent post. This thread makes no sense if you reply to something from earlier. I have deleted and will delete these erroneous posts if I spot them in time.
  9. Elizabeth KERR Played Widow Emma Partridge in 'The Canterbury Crock'. It's funny how some guest stars are more memorable than others. I recognized his face (when I looked him up), but the name meant nothing to me.
  10. Ice cream I had some last week. I've even made them myself once or twice. It's not a roast without Yorkshire pudding!
  11. That's the same story that Roger alerted us to and Me Lee posted pictures - see here.
  12. GOLDEN Palace Saloon (from 'Go West, Young Dukes')
  13. Yorkshire Yorkshire Relish takes its name from the English county where it was first made in the 1830s.
  14. I'm always here, Garrett, you should know that. To quote Carl the the janitor from 'The Breakfast Club', "I am the eyes and ears of this institution, my friends."
  15. When I first joined HNet, it used different software, and up where you see the bold, italic, underline, link, quote etc. buttons in the reply window there used to be one for images. You clicked it, up popped a box where you pasted the image URL and you clicked OK or Insert or something like that. All it really did was put IMG tags around the URL. Back then, I could compose my longer posts in a text editor, including images with IMG tags, and paste the whole lot into the reply window. When the software changed, I found that you could paste the URLs directly, although it seems they have to start HTTPS rather than just HTTP nowadays.
  16. I've been here for well over a decade and I've never noticed that button! Out of the two choices, I'd go for "Insert image from URL", but I just paste the URL directly into the post. The forum should recognize it as an image and display it. Which image host are you using?
  17. You can only directly upload very small images in the posts. The best thing to do is to use an image hosting site. It looks like Flickr lets you upload 1,000 images for free, but there are many other - just search for "free image hosting". The image host will then give you a link to post the image in the forum.
  18. So, no one wanted to post a "Y" word in the last round! Come on guys - two rules to this game: go through the alphabet in order and put the word(s) you're playing in CAPITAL letters. We're now looking for a "B" word. It was Mr. WINKLE.
  19. Can I remind y'all of the way this game works from the very first post. The next song has to include at least one word in its title that was in the previous song title. If you just want to post your favorite music, you can use the What are you listening to??? thread.
  20. I think that the word 'redneck' was only used about half a dozen times across all the seasons of the original show, so it's not like they were censoring a common word for the kids' version. I found a website that compares two words. Here's what it has to say about Roughneck and Redneck (obviously other definitions will vary): roughneck Noun Any laborer on an oil rig A rowdy or uncouth person redneck Noun (slang, pejorative) An uneducated, unsophisticated, or poor Caucasian person, typically used to describe residents (of any gender "Country Music Lyrics New Country Tunes") of the rural Southern US. (slang) The nickname given to miners who wore red bandanas for identification during the West Virginia mine war of 1921. "West Virginia Division of Culture and History" (UK, archaic) The nickname given to Roman Catholics in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
  21. TAYLOR Character played by Bob Hastings in 'Sky Bandits Over Hazzard'.
  22. Airwolf is being shown on one of the satellite channels over here. I tried it again a year or two ago as I liked it in the '80s, but I couldn't get back into it. Hobie, Airwolf was one of many '80s shows based around a vehicle - in this case a hi-tech helicopter. As well as Knight Rider, another that springs to mind is Hardcastle and McCormick which gave a lot of screen time to the prototype sports car known as the Coyote. The only series in Tony's list that I've never watched is Street Hawk, although I'm aware of it. Street Hawk was based around a prototype motorcycle! It's a shame that BJ and the Bear isn't on DVD - I'd buy it too. They've only released seasons 1 and 2 of The Fall Guy on DVD, and while the US can now buy all 6 seasons of CHiPs on DVD, we can only get seasons 1 and 2 in region 2. Speaking of The Fall Guy, how does everyone feel about next year's Fall Guy movie. According to what I've read, Ryan Gosling is playing Colt Seavers and Emily Blunt is Jody Banks. I'll have to give Airwolf another try as it had great theme music:
  23. OCTOLINE One of the fake company logos that appeared on race suits in the show. It was very similar to the Castrol Oil logo. I've never heard of 'James at 16' - I checked it out on IMDb, but I don't think it was shown in the UK (the only countries in Europe with release dates are Germany and Italy). Kim and Kyle appeared two separate, consecutive episodes of 'CHiPs' the year before Kim was in Dukes.
  24. Good song. This is a acid jazz cover of a Stevie Wonder song from 1992. It was successful across Europe, but I don't know if it was released in the US. The driving scenes were filmed around Camden in north London. 'Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing' - Incognito

What you call football is the third or fourth sport known as football over here. The first two are soccer and Gaelic, and the third and fourth are American football and Aussie rules. The Super Bowl was widely covered over here, and some people took the Monday off work to watch it, but Rihanna's pregnancy was probably bigger news than the result.
