  1. Sorry folks, but I missed this thread and started a new one on the passing of James Best a few minutes ago. I have him on a few "Dukes" DVDs and also "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" (a 1953 creature feature, he was one of the radar operators in the Arctic when a blast releases the monster, etc.). Is it just me, or has everyone else not heard a cross word about this man ever? RIP, Sheriff Rosco.
  2. Age 88, from complications of pneumonia at a hospice in North Carolina. RIP, Sheriff Rosco and thanks for the many laughs. A class act.
  3. If I ever find that memory card I promise to post some of the pictures here.
  4. Hi all. I've been a member for about six years, but have been a very infrequent visitor. This may be only my third or fourth post. "The Dukes of Hazzard" was part of my early adult life, I was in the Navy at the time. I recall buying only one "People" magazine in my life, and Catherine Bach was featured in it! Being in the Navy then, aboard ship and overseas I often only saw the show when I was home. Since that time, and as it passes I've found myself missing the show (as about 99% of ya'll). Denver Pyle was my favorite (sorry Catherine, but you were a very close 2nd!). I don't have cable, but do have some of the season DVDs. Several years ago on the way back home from a friend's wedding near Rome, GA; I stopped in Covington early one Sunday morning. I had the town square all to myself, and made several laps of it pretending Roscoe was after me (but I was in a green Subaru...). Somewhere, I have a memory card with about 30 pictures of Covington. Some of the storefronts have changed, but I could recognize many of the buildings from Season 1. Some of the trees were larger also. I would have loved to gone into the little diner with memorabilia from the show, and others but unfortunately they were closed. Living in Virginia, I made several stops at the old "Cooter's Garage" at Sperryville. I was sad to see it close; I still have one of Cooter's air conditioners (a fan) hanging on my refrigerator. I'll try to visit more often in 2012!
  5. I stayed away from going to the theater to this movie, back in August after reading about it on Ben Jones' site (I've been to the old Cooter's Garage that was in Sperryville, VA a couple of times. I LOVE that area!). But last night looking for something to view, I went to Blockbuster and rented it. Of course, all they had was the Unrated Version. My review: Denver and Sorrel must be spinning in their graves! The series and the stars (especially the Dukes and Enos, and yes Roscoe to a good degree) had a sense of innocence and integrity that they maintained. In the movie, the Dukes all came across as people any good cop/judge/jury would send to a prison work camp in a heartbeat. The brighest spot of the movie was Lynda Carter's character (and not much of her was seen). The series had the Dukes turning from a life on the edge of crime by making whiskey; in the movie I wouldn't have been surprised in the final scene (which was cut slightly, I'm referencing the scene as it didn't make it) if Uncle Jesse (Willie Nelson) had not been smoking pot in the smokehouse, but instead had been running a batch of methamphetamine off in a covert lab. And Bo needed a shave... Some of the deleted scenes would have been a little truer to the series (like at the courthouse). Does Blockbuster give refunds? The movie sucked. Stick with the TV series if you want entertainment.
