  1. I decided I might as well poke my head in and wish everyone a happy holiday season. Life has been crazy for the past year and a half to two years.

What's everyone thankful for this holiday season?  Heres mine:

A little over a year ago, I had a major change which surprised me. About 5 or 6 years ago, my mom told me one of hers and her now fiance's friends was interested in me. I didn't believe her and made up a few excuses about why I wasn't interested (I was actually interested but didn't believe her. My self esteem wasn't the best among other reasons).

I honestly didn't believe it until late August or early September of 2018, when he asked me to dinner. I admittedly shrieked a loud "what!? " in disbelief... Not my proudest moment. It took at least a week or two before I could even respond due to the shock. We've been together since mid September. He was there for me when a few days later, after we talked about how we felt, when my step mother went into a coma unexpectedly, dying a few weeks later. A few weeks after that, he was there for me when my cousin almost died in an auto accident... He had God, Luck,  Something on his side because most wouldn't have lived... Pretty sure my brother, also in the accident, saved his life.

A while after that, when everything settled down, it came out that over the course of watching me all summer in 2018, my now boyfriend apparently was acting like I was Daisy and fell off the chair, trying to watch me as I walked around a corner.

About six months ago, we found something else to bond over while he was flipping through Amazon Prime Video. I almost died laughing when he more or less indicated the show he found was one of his favorite old shows from his teenage years - it was the Dukes of Hazzard. The *insert playful insult here* actually got to watch during the original run!

Of course, he had to tell me to shut up (playfully might I add) because, much to his surprise, I knew so much trivia. He hadn't even known it was one of my favorites as it had never come up prior.

Yes, there is a large age gap of 16 years but, at this point in my life, it's just a number, this is the happiest I've been in a relationship, and the best I've been treated in one, by far.

Basically, long story short, I'm thankful for my boyfriend of 14 months, him actually getting the courage to ask my oblivious behind out, all the laughs he's given me, and, for being able to bond a little over the Dukes. Also thankful for his kids, who although two of them are not much younger than me, I absolutely adore each of them and enjoy having around.

I'm also thankful for my dream vehicle - 96 Ford Ranger pickup that was more or less given to me - see surprisingly 'fell in my lap' - 2 years ago which enabled me to finally learn stick... Just hope I can get her fixed before the repairs reach critical or catastrophic... A year+ of sitting will do that unfortunately.

  2. I decided to pop my head in to see what was up after an absence of almost a year and a half (oops!), and with my hotspot out of data and no other Wi-Fi, I had to log in using my Android Phone. I noticed a little issue, and am not sure if it was the site or my phone, but I had a very difficult time finding the login page. I had to bounce between a few non-board/non-thread pages to get to it as the drop down wasn't working on many of them. Strange, I know.

  3. I still hang out with Lori too all the time... and I bumped into another user who fell off the radar too but haven't heard from her recently. I'm not at liberty to discuss who, but she wasn't around for all that long. Let's just say she ran into a few problems that no one should have to go through. I never wrote with her, but she did a good job.

Hilarous thing was, K and I were using some of the same media, and I'd seen her posts in passing, but hadn't realized it was her.

Translation: Some how, there's several of us who ended all ended up in the same fandom that is something other than Dukes... and somehow, I think there's more of us than we're aware of... and all on the same social media website (and I don't mean facebook or twitter).

And no, I haven't heard from the pain in the a** that I used to write with as a teenager and I honestly don't care to at this point. Too much drama.

  4. Had a feeling something like this was happening when after a few days of absence, I couldn't log in to check anything. Actually, I couldn't even bring the site up on the 8th.

Doesn't look too shabby Mufn. I'm not seeing any errors, aside from the previously mentioned one with the dashboard or user control panel or whatever you want to call it now a days that I haven't checked on recently.

Actually Roger, if memory serves right, Mufn has literally been at this for 20 years, give or take a few months... nothing nearly about it. I think. I think the original fandom website, started by Mufn, had its ribbon cut in 1997 in Yahoo Boards or whatever they were called. When Yahoo started screwing up and screwing the members over by getting rid of Yahoo Boards, Mufn started this joint in 1999... this is all if my memory serves right. It was around 1999 that Yahoo created Groups and kicked the Boards, and the groups were... ahem... horrible. Now, I am pulling this from information I garnered a long time ago from second hand sources so some of my memory might be corrupted, especially since I was born in '86 and thus would have been 10 or 11 years old when Hnet started in its original incarnation on the Yahoo Boards.

Mufn has been a staple and cornerstone to the Dukes Community pretty much since the internet opened its doors to the public. Without her, we probably wouldn't have any real fan community, especially not one of the caliber we've enjoyed for the past twenty years. There would have been no James Best being involved with the fans on a set of forums and taking questions. There would be no real fanfiction community for the Dukes. There would be no forums in existence today for our enjoyment because let's face it, just about every fandom aside from this one has moved to those horrible websites like wattpad, live journal, tumblr, etc. which all experience very high theft rates of work, be it fanfiction or art.

Speaking of that, thanks to Mufn being such a staple in the early days, with excellent enforcement and such, we are one of the few fandoms that does not experience a high rate of fanfiction theft, character theft, etc. In fact, our theft rate has been almost nil because it was always nipped in the bud early on and rarely did anything slip through the cracks.

We are also one of the few fandoms that I am aware of today that still has a majority privately run fan community which gives us a lot more freedom from stress, because our stuff is pretty unlikely to be stolen. Mufn has done a lot to protect us, along with MaryAnne and Brian when they were mods. If it were not those three, our fandom would look like ... I can't even begin to imagine how horrid it would look with no central structuring especially with today's political climate.

Aside from that, anyone sides Mufn and maybe 2 or so others would probably have given up on one of the major forum reboots that occurred due to a massive hacking that destroyed everything that was on the entire website (to my understanding the slander and hate speech and such was absolutely horrible and if it was caught by the webhost, we could have lost the entire community - thank God the forum admins caught it when they did even though the site was offline I think for a few hours to a day or two while things were rebuilt). The forums were especially hit hard by that and I think there was a minor exodus of fans when that happened due to the lost work. I myself lost a ton of work when that happened as it coincided with a floppy disk failure so my backups weren't there. It wasn't Mufn's fault, and she handled it in stride, putting things back together and such with the help of a few others. A lesser person would  have folded and said screw it. It takes dedication to keep going for 20 years with everything that has happened to the Dukes community.

I guess what I am saying is, it has literally been a 20 year rollercoaster, and Mufn deserves every little bit of that thanks if not more because we do not have a quarter of the problems of other fandoms thanks to the people who built this community from the ground up, and those admins, Mufn especially, did not give up on us.

    We love you Mufn.

  5. Not going to disagree, Roger... The fishtailing is a lot of fun to watch... not so much when you end up doing it when you're on pavement when you slam on the brakes to avoid a deer and almost hit the guardrail instead - no damage thank God.

Thought my mom was gonna kill me when I told her I had a near accident - her brakes locked up on me when i slammed them on. My car needs brake work done to it so they will not lock like that. There may be some minor bubbles in my brake lines - the car stops and stops well, but the brakes will not lock even though they don't have ABS. My brother drove my car a few months ago (I was on pain meds and needed to run up to my school), and he b****ed the entire drive about the brakes, as well as a minor exhaust leak that I have to get fixed. He also complained incessantly about the way the car vibrated.

But yeah, the way the cars handle at high speed on a dirt track is great when you're watching it.

You should watch the mud bogs sometime. Harder to locate but they are great. As previously stated, someone ALWAYS gets stuck once during the event. That's fun to watch (and from what I understand, more fun to do). Drag Racing street legal cars and trucks in the Mud... whoever thought of that needed to receive an award.

  6. It's more exciting than NASCAR in my opinion, that's for sure, and I think that might have been part of what interested me in the Dukes in the first place - the dirt track racing that was portrayed, but it was portrayed in a way that it sucked a dirt track fan in, even if they only really liked the in person races.

  7. Noticing the whole retirement of Jeff Gordon last night got me to thinking...

I've never been into NASCAR racing. I've never cared for it. Now that isn't to say that I don't like racing.

No, what I grew up with and prefer instead was more akin to Hazzard's answer to racing - the Dirt Tracks. I grew up watching what I believe are referred to as Sprint Cars, racing the mud tracks - in person. I don't care for it on the TV - has to have that authenticity that comes with being there in person with the sounds and the smell of the exhaust and.. *sigh*. I grew up watching stock cars on mud tracks too. We used to have a mud track over in New Castle, Delaware somewhere I believe. I'm not sure if it's still there though.

My favorite to watch when I was a kid though were the Mud Bogs - drag racing in the mud. Someone always eventually got stuck. Now that being said, the last time I watched a mud bog in person, my mom was racing them and one of my other relatives... don't know if I should refer to him as my uncle or my cousin - I've always called him uncle, but he's actually my like, second cousin through my father's marriage to my step mother and I knew him as uncle long before my step mother came into the picture....?

Anyway, that last mud bog race, I was really young at the time, but that race scared my mom enough that I do not believe she returned to race with us in tow. She was next in line when the wind kicked up really bad. She got disqualified for leaving her vehicle to get us kids to safety. The wind was so bad that they covered us head to toe and got us to the regular vehicles. The adults who carried us to the vehicles looked like they'd been hit by a sand blaster - the sand and fine dirt that was dried out of the mud and the lots and such was blown up so bad by the wind storm (I'm surprised it wasn't declared a small tornado) that they were all bleeding in places.

It happened during the 90's in like Delaware, Maryland, or Pennsylvania. I can't remember where exactly. From that point on, my mom checked for wind warnings before taking us to any dirt based race.

I kind of want to get the money up to go to the dirt track races and mud bogs again... haven't done it in years.

Actually, that particular race came up the other day when my mom and I were talking to someone, my mom's fiance's sister I think, who had no idea what a mud bog was. Of course, while my mom was explaining it, I popped off and told her you just gotta check the wind warnings before you go and why, and my mom was honestly shocked I remembered that incident. I also remember my "uncle's" Chevy Nova getting stuck during that event lol (and the wrecker got stuck getting him out)... I miss that Canary Yellow Chevy Nova... but he kept blowing the engine... and yes, it had a name. We called it the Canary. I think it was like a '71 or something.

But yeah, I think I want to go watch some of those races this summer if I can get the money up. I wonder if they still do periodic free admittance.

Ugh, first I have got to get my cooling system fixed in my car before I can go - pin hole in the radiator and my coolant isn't circulating properly at times (and or my cooling system fans are NOT kicking in so it may be the circulating but the fan motors could be blown. It could also be my fan relays - my dear sweet brother jumped my car and reversed the polarity - dummy was lucky not to blow both our cars up. he assumed something when my leads weren't marked instead of checking the +/- markers on the battery. He also melted. literally melted, my ground wire for my engine. Everyone swore he wouldn't have made the mistake he made, but a week later with my car sitting with a dead battery - parasitic drain so I have a kill switch i forgot to hit - he looked at the battery finally and admitted, ADMITTED he reversed the polarity).

Speaking of Kill Switches - those are required today for any kind of racing vehicle to safely kill a vehicle engine, preferably remotely, to protect the driver in case of a wreck. Many of the remote kill switches can be used to remotely start a vehicle as well. My mom's pathfinder when she raced that had to have one installed or else they would not have allowed her to race. Needless to say, she is permanently retired from doing any kind of racing for health reasons.

Definitely want to go watch one of those this summer if i get the chance and my knee holds up well enough to get into the stands.

  8. Yeah, I read that a little while ago.

heh, kinda reminds me of the Dukes/Law Rivalry. Different sides, but always willing to help each other out when it came down to it... well, the Dukes were anyway... and Enos... and Cletus... Sometimes Rosco... humm...

I may not watch NASCAR - always preferred the dirt track racing and mud bogs for some reason, don't ask me why (heckuva lot of fun to watch in person at our local tracks) but i have always gotten that good ol' boy vibe from about 95% or more of the racers - displayed by Gordon by filling in for old Rival's son (who was also one of his rivals - used to be an all out war around here between Gordon fans and Earnhardt family fans).

  9. Alright, this is embarrassing but... I honestly just discovered tonight that Jeff Gordon retired going on two years ago.

I discovered it because of a 24 car poster at Little Caesar's of all places... and that car poster had some guy that  was not Gordon on it..

I had to do a double take. It was like... when and how did this happen?

I honestly admit, I don't follow or watch NASCAR... but with as many old friends as I have who were complete Jeff Gordon nuts... How in the heck did I miss this?

I also admit, one of my favorite Country Music Videos of all time features Jeff Gordon - It's a Brad Paisley one... I am sure, due to past conversations with Garrett, that the writer behind him knows which video I am talking about... Old Alabama... ;) but my point is... this caught me out of left field.

  10. I am mostly in agreement with Mufn, so here's my advice as the status of fandoms and fan creations with the production companies are changing: I would consult with Warner Brothers before starting on anything on such a game because they own the licensing rights to the Dukes of Hazzard, but, the only reason I really see them shooting the entire thing down at this point in time is the confederate flag - if you consult them and go through proper channels which would in effect eliminate the licensing issues if they give you permission.

Here's my reasoning - I've been hanging out in the Supernatural Fandom for a bit of time now, and one thing I've become very much aware of is the WB, who produces Supernatural just like they produced the Dukes of Hazzard, and has a hand in Creation Stands Entertainment (I think), has actually begun to fully embrace, support, and encourage fan art, fan creations, fanfiction, etc. In fact, they encourage it in the Supernatural fandom which is amazing (even going so far as to include factors of it in episodes of the show and believe me, you'd have to watch the series to understand it but they have a lot of fan representation on the show by showing different types of fans - the crazy nut job fans who would kidnap a character/actor if given the chance as well as the down to earth fans and both those representations also do fanfiction and such (even going so far as to poke fun at the pairings that people come up with by mentioning them in those fanfiction pieces)... they did it by creating a set of 'books' based off the lives of Sam and Dean Winchester that were written by a prophet) - a lot of people create stuff and go to fan conventions like comicon and sell their creations. Warner Brothers hasn't really given it a second thought provided it goes through a certain set of channels - and these are creations that would actually violate copyrights... like a lot of copyright laws.

To be honest, everyone involved with the show's creation over there trolls the fandom... like seriously... a decent size portion is into some pretty ... ehem... unconventional pairings... and the actors and such play on it at conventions and videos and such... and those unconventional pairings, while not canon, are represented on the show through depictions of fans, as said, writing fanfiction.

Now with the above being said, Warner Brothers has also allowed a series of books based on the Supernatual books to be published by various authors - and I'm not talking companion books - I mean actual honest to God fiction novels.

Like I said, if you really want to do something like a video game for the Dukes fandom, speak with Warner Brothers before you do anything (email would be best most likely but it may take a lot of time for them to get back to you but you'd have documentation to protect yourself). They may take a few royalties, or most of the profits, but they are now a days in the habit of encouraging fan creativity as a way to promote their shows, but if you are honest, and get their blessing, they will most likely be pretty cool with it especially if you don't charge anything for the game. If you do it behind their backs and they catch wind of it - you may find yourself in a bind and lose all your hard work. Also, Warner Brothers may go through one of their divisions, like Creation Stands, to market the video game (Creation Stands may be an independent company that they contract out to). Just explain to them you want to do it as a fan project to promote the company and the show, which may rake in more money for them in the long run.

It's safer to consult them than to not.

  11. April 1st.

Hazzard didn't celebrate April Fool's Day - they Celebrated Empowering Women - aka Sadie Hogg Day. Sorry, this one caught my eye and yesterday being April 1st...

For which Episode Bo and Luke coached basketball: The Boars Nest Bears.

Alright, here's one of my own (could start a debate however). What type of stock car engine did the General Lee reportedly have, and what size was it? I'll give you a hint: The one in the Big Screen Movies was NOT the same one mentioned in the series, and I'm not talkin' about the one from the movies for this trivia question.

Bonus: What engine type was the General Lee supposedly running in the Big Screen Movies?

  12. 12 hours ago, Boss JD Hogg said:

It's fun coming here and as Roger said the quality is still here.

I'm noticing the lack of quantity - but you can't have quantity and perfection both.

And H*** Yeah, this place is fun. Always has been. You should have seen some of our shenanigans back in the day, namely, during the 2000's.

The Coltrane Family Banter was especially Hilarious back in the 2000's. Most nights, I wished I had popcorn! Gad I miss those days... we were one, big, humongous family. Most of us who frequented here actually actually goofed off as much as we wrote fanfiction - and you could not keep up with everything being posted!

Shout out to Mufn and the old fanfic writers who made this place great in the early days (15 to 20 years ago - if anyone is wondering, Hazzardnet had another incarnation at one time)! Can't forget the fantastic fans either!

Oh boy... I just pictured some fan art ideas that someone might like to do - A couple of Dukes posters themed around Trump's Tagline: Make America Great Again, with subtext under them like, "bring back family values"; "bring back good old family fun"; "Support Equality - The Dukes did", " Bring back clean, quality programming", "Bring back family programming"... Now, I should point out, I do not like Trump (Did not like Hillary either) but his tagline resonated with a lot of people.

  13. Right, so I posted a little blurb under TV about this, but I figured I'd post something more in depth here on this thread. Basically last year sometime I wrote a Dukes of Hazzard x Supernatural Crossover (prompted by finding an old Crony in the Supernatural Fandom who might have sworn me to secrecy as well as people who grew up watching the Dukes who loved it as kids) - and I've got some other Dukes x Supernatural fics in the works that are unrelated to this. I figured I might as well give y'all a synopsis here (it's a different one than is on the site but it's the same story and it still describes it, just more directed to y'all than my normal audiences now a days).

Synopsis: Things have been rough in Hazzard with bad omens running rampant, which brings home a woman that was thought to have been murdered in 1983 on her 20th birthday... but the year is 2010 and she hasn't even hit 30 yet... and why is she traveling with Sam and Dean Winchester (Supernatural). Will Bo Duke be able to handle seeing her again and will he be able to let go? Can Luke help figure things out and keep Bo and Sam from fighting like cats and dogs if it calls for it? Can she convince Cooter that it is really her? Can they save her when a rogue angel kidnaps her, and can they save Nancy Lou, Cooter's daughter, when she thinks she's doing the right thing? And who wins the Traditional Thanksgiving Ridge Runner's Race? Will Sam and Dean survive some traditional Southern Jukin'? Will Dean Winchester, who listens to nothing but classic rock, be able to survive the country music? Also, WHY is Cletus building a Nest in a tree?

    Link: https://kcswritingroom.wordpress.com/xo-ff/days/

Please note: This is a part of a larger series for Supernatural and is the initial story for the series (currently five fics long with four posted), and I tried to combine some of the best elements from both shows into this initial story. It is also, following Dukes tradition, a CLEAN fic that is family friendly... but there are some minor horror elements... and I do mean minor.

Also, Please Note: This takes place in Hazzard in the year 2010. Boss and Jesse have both passed on, Enos is in California. Rosco is retired. Cletus is Sheriff. Bo, Luke, and Daisy are living on the Duke farm. Bo is married (to Gabby - this is mentioned in passing). Cooter has opened a new garage in town after his stint as a Congressman.

The link above is to my site for my Supernatural Fanfiction, but it takes you directly to the page of Days of Future Past's table of contents.

  14. Alright, I'm going to put my two cents in here (if no one minds of course)...

If i remember correctly, the show mentioned the Ridge Raiders were a bandit group of Ridge Runners who would give h*** to people like Boss Hogg - wealthy, crooked politicians. Raiders referred to the Raids they did. It was a cross between Ridge Runner and Raiders, with Raiders being used in a term akin to Robin Hood. It wasn't quite explained too well just a little... well, it was more touched on without any real explaining, so you had to infer it from a lot of the incidents that occurred during the episodes.

  15. As someone who lives in an area with red clay (and a very, very minor issue seeing shades of blue, usually the ones bordering on gray), the wrecker is blue and white, a medium to slightly bright blue. Hoss's images are actually pretty spot on.

The reddish color of red clay CAN actually give blue a dark teal tint. Don't ask me how, but I've witnessed it. My state is almost entirely red clay, and when you go down to the C&D erm... Chesapeake and Delaware Canal .... to go mudding and ha-bahing, blue trucks kinda take on that blue green tinge sometimes, depending how much water to dust ratio there is. I know it's weird, but it's true... you'd think it would give it a more purplish or ruddy hue... I think it has something to do with the way the red dust affects the light being reflected or something depending on the lighting conditions.

If you look in one of the wrecker photos, there is a layer of red clay dust on the vehicle. The other photo of the same wrecker is much cleaner as though it had been semi recently through the Hazzard Car Wash... or you know, an actual car or truck wash... or at least washed with something with some pressure.

  16. Mufn,

I've kinda been updating some stuff for my profile, and I seem to have found a few glitches... which probably weren't noticed by anyone because most people aren't updating that type of stuff - I had to update my email and such and want to update my avatar.

To properly view anything under your user settings (and to change settings - email, password, etc), you have to change the theme from the one of the two customs to the forums software default.

I've been in the process of updating stuff after a LONG hiatus due to a busy life.

Also, can anyone tell me where to update my avatar?? I haven't seemed to have found it yet and i've been looking all night (I haven't been able to sleep).

  17. I've been good for the most part - few health problems (again - the swelling thing cleared up - turned out to be a bad allergy to a med, now I'm dealing with duodenitis and a bad knee).

I'm still writing - somehow ended up in the Supernatural Fandom - blame Lori Davenport - and I'm pretty happy with it... for the most part - cannot stand the ... inappropriate fics ... or those new fangled reader insert fics... but I'm still writing. Churned out a Dukes  x Supernatural Fic last year. Got my own website off the ground... have like 31 fic ideas to write - a few of them are Dukes crossovers... main thing I write for Dukes now is crossovers. the idea well ran dry for the straight Dukes fanfiction awhile back. My writing style has changed quite a bit.

Got back into the aquarium hobby - got five aquariums full of fish... well, 4 full of fish - the other I was able to break down after getting a new larger tank (break down means take out of service). 2 of the other 3 are quarantine tanks.

I still have my cat that I got from my mom. Took a picture of myself earlier, with the cat and wtihout, studied it, and I looked like I was a teenager or preteen - no idea how that happened. I'm 30 years old and still get mistaken for a 20 year old. My mom's fiance's sister about died when she found out I'm 30 and not 20 - thoroughly thought my 28 year old brother was a lot older than I am.

I'm an aunt now. I have a 5 year old niece that i'm helping to take care of when I can. Got my first car - a 94 Geo Prizm that has more vehicular cancer spots than a few... er... rust spots. Spent a few months driving a '97 Ford Ranger - Miss that truck, but it was my brothers and he was charging me out the ... ehem... to use it.. and it would have never passed inspection in a few months otherwise I would have bought it.

My poor car has been hit twice in my school's parking lot - I'm a college student who temporarily dropped for the semester. Same spot was damaged twice. It's to the point where repairs aren't worth it because it keeps getting hit.

I would put a pic up of my car, but I cannot seem to find the pictures I took when i got it in November.

I'm honestly listening to less country music these days - it's about 50 percent country 50 percent old rock. Did a ton of growing up over the past few years... and I do mean a ton.

  18. Right, so my brother went to a car show a while back, and he managed to snap these pics for me. I figured I might as well share them beings I've been lurking.

I believe these were taken in Slower, Lower Delaware (The southern half of the state).

  19. Luuuuucy I'm Hooooome

Wait... wait a second... I've been lurking for almost a month without logging in and no one has really posted anything... like... is there really anyone left on here?

Are there any fanfic writers left?

Are there any fanfic fans left?

Alright, I need a roll call... Who is still here, also, who is still here from like, 2010 or earlier?
