  2. On to project #10: Hughie Hogg's Volkswagen! The first thing I discovered was that it was NOT repeat NOT a true convertible. Rather, it was a chop-top, as evidenced by the sedan-style windscreen, and the bottoms of the window posts still remaining. The second thing I had to learn was the difference between the classic Beetle and the Super Beetle. Some of you already know this, but it was new to me. Although the differences are easy to miss at first glance, I now see clearly that Hughie's ride was most definitely a Super Beetle with the roof cut off. After much more research and guidance from folks at an automotive modeling forum, I realized (after much frustration) that I was going to have to kitbash THREE different kits to do this. 1) Aoshima Beetle 1303S for most (not all) of the body and the bumpers 2) Revell '68 Beetle for the chassis, engine, windscreen, rear body vents, tail lights and much of the interior 3) Revell VW Cabriolet for some of the interior and some of the body details I should also mention part of my research was to go through every Dukes episode in which this vehicle appeared, pause the DVD whenever a good view appeared from any angle, and photograph the scene. I then had the photos made into prints to use as I build. Maybe low-tech, but it works for me.

    The last 24 hours

We had sunny weather here today, so we set off for the beach. Despite the water still being a bit cold, I had a quick swim in the sea for the first time in years. We then went along the coast to a very picturesque village with a working harbor for some very fresh fish and chips!

  5. I STILL think they should've had him ( Hughie) take Boss' place on the reunion movie!

  6. As with your previous builds, I'll be avidly waiting for updates, and I'm already looking forward to seeing the finished model.

  7. Final step for now was scratchbuilding the large McPherson struts, a vital item for the Super Beetle. The struts themselves were made from plastic tubing, then the springs made by wrapping metal wire around an appropriately-sized plastic rod then trimmed to shape and installed.

  8. The excellent Revell '68 chassis actually fit the Aoshima body *mostly* well. Only two issues to face. First, it needed widening on both sides with a .040 strip (easy fix). The bigger problem was that the aft wheel wells and engine area didn't fit. So I took a saw and cut partway into the plastic at that area so that the aft area could be bent upward, and then fit quite well, considering.

  9. I run derbies in your local redneck festivals, a.k.a. county fairs for the last couple of years, I also own a pretty decent size die cast collection. About 4,000 cars or so, and of course I have every General I can get my hands on!

  10. that is cool, i collect too, but not as much as you have...lol, here is one of the '69 charger metal body, wich I am transforming into the General lee; next to it is a plastic general lee wich was made from a '69 charger R/T model, wich I had to sand the roof of , since that model was a canvas roof and not hardtop.

  13. Hey! That is cool! I have tried cross-stitching (if I am thinking of the right one!) a couple times, but I can never get it. They always look like I was doin' them in the middle of a tornado! I give you a lot of credit, I am sure they turn out really nice!! General Grant

  14. Tempest! We're not bored at all! Nice trucks by the way. Khee! Hobbies....well, lessee this list could get odd but here we go...and apologies in advance if I bore y'all! ROFL. Dukes of Hazzard (duh. Why would I be here? ROFL). Collecting episodes, merchandise, writing stories, wasting my hours on this website. ROFL. Car restoration - 1986 Firebird. Next step is replacing the rest of the interior, hoping to do this next spring/summer. After that will be having the body refinished and re-painted....still debating on staying with black or doing a nice two-tone dark blue and silver. Khee! I too also collect anything Pontiac/Firebird/Trans Am. Also anything GM related or Dukes related Mopars. Hot Wheels, Matchbox or Johnny Lightning. DVD's.... I have an odd mix of favorite tv shows and movies. LOL. Dukes of course but also anything James Garner. I've started collecting Bob Hope films (okay I only have one right now but I'm gonna look for more. LOL). WWII movies. (Patton, Great Escape, ect...). I like old films of the 40's and 50's. Burt Reynolds movies. TV shows such as Starsky and Hutch. Waiting for Hogan's Heroes to come out on DVD. Wishing for the Rockford Files to come out on DVD. Also the Fall Guy. And Maverick. I still collect LP albums. And play 'em! =) Don't have any pets. Used to have gold fish but that was a hundred years ago. LOL. I have an acoustic guitar that I haven't had time to sit and play for about 6 years now. I did get it out once this past summer, busted a string on it, didn't have a replacement and decided I would take it to be restrung. Have yet to get around to doing that. LOL Truthfully I don't have a lot of hobbies because the bulk of my free time is spent either writing stories or tending to web page stuff between HNet and dukesofhazzardfanfic.com. If I got paid for the stories I write and the web work I do, I'd be rich. ROFL.

Thank you. I'd like to show it to John but I don't know how to do. I can't register on his Myspace and it seems the only way to contact him.
